The short version: this site doesn't collect information about you. Here is how it really works, in plain words.

What this site does not do

  • No ads. There are no ads on this site.
  • No cookies. The site does not set any cookies.
  • No trackers. There are no analytics, tracking pixels, or social media buttons, and the pages don't load fonts or scripts from other websites.
  • No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for. The only form is the optional question box, described below. It never asks for your name or email.

The question box

The Ask a question page has a short form where you can send a question or an idea for a guide. Sending one is optional and you don't need an account. Here is exactly what happens:

  • What is saved: the text of your question, the nickname if you typed one, the topic if you picked one, and the date and time it was sent. That's all.
  • What is not saved: the form doesn't ask for your name or email, and the site doesn't save your IP address with your question. No cookies are set.
  • Where it is kept: in a private storage area in this site's Cloudflare account (Cloudflare Workers KV). It is not shown on the site. Only the site owner can read it, using a password.
  • How it is used: to decide what to write about. Your question may inspire a guide or a news post. If it does, it will be written in general terms and never with your nickname, unless you clearly ask to be credited.
  • How long it is kept: each question is deleted automatically after 12 months, or sooner if the owner deletes it.
  • No replies: there is no way to reply to you, because the form doesn't collect contact details. Please don't include an email address or phone number unless you truly want a reply.
  • Please don't share private details: no health or medical information, Social Security numbers, account numbers, or your employer's name. Ask your question in general terms.

Like every page on this site, the form is sent through Cloudflare, so Cloudflare's standard server logs (described below) apply to it as well.

The search box

The search page uses a small script that is part of this site. It downloads a list of page titles from this site and does the searching inside your own browser. What you type in the search box is not sent anywhere.

The web host's server logs

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare may keep standard server logs when someone visits a page. That is the basic technical information any website's server receives when a page is requested, such as an IP address, the type of browser, and which page was asked for. Those logs are handled by Cloudflare under Cloudflare's privacy policy. This site doesn't add any tracking of its own on top of that.

Search engine tools

I use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools only to see how the site performs in search results, such as which searches lead people to these pages and whether search engines can read the pages. They are not used to track visitors, and no tracking code from them is placed on these pages.

Links to other websites

Guides link to official sources like IRS.gov, DOL.gov, HealthCare.gov, and Medicare.gov. When you follow a link, you leave this site, and that site's own privacy policy applies.

If this ever changes

If ads or referral links are ever added to this site, or if public comments are added, this page will be updated first, before they appear.
